How the rental works

  1. Request availability. Only two A Line bicycles are bookable during the soft launch.
  2. Pick up at 223 Dauphine Street. Bring government-issued photo identification and a major credit card in the paying renter's name.
  3. Complete the orientation. Every rider signs the rental agreement and waiver, passes the fit and control check, and demonstrates folding and unfolding.
  4. Travel with the folded bike. Fold before boarding, lift and manage it safely, and store it where Amtrak crew directs.
  5. Return inside the shop. The bicycle and all included equipment remain your responsibility until accepted by staff.

Taking the Brompton on Amtrak

Amtrak's current national FAQ permits a true folding bicycle under 34 by 15 by 48 inches on all trains in place of one carry-on item. The Brompton A Line folds to about 25.3 by 23 by 10.6 inches and weighs about 25 pounds. Fold it before boarding and store it where the crew directs. In limited cases, crew may direct a folding bike to the baggage car when luggage space is unavailable.

Rules, space, equipment, station capabilities and fees can change. Confirm your exact trip with Amtrak's current bicycle FAQ and read RideTHISbike's plain-English Amtrak folding-bike guide.

Independent service: BuZz NOLA and RideTHISbike LLC are independent businesses and are not endorsed by or affiliated with Amtrak or Brompton. Amtrak and Brompton are used descriptively.

Damage, theft and breakdowns away from New Orleans

Use the supplied lock whenever the bicycle is unattended and store it indoors overnight. Ordinary wear is not charged. Misuse is charged at actual parts and labor cost. A lost, stolen or unreturned bicycle is charged at current replacement cost, including installed accessories and applicable tax. Liability is not limited to the $500 authorization hold.

If the bicycle may be unsafe, stop riding and contact RideTHISbike immediately. Repairs require approval. RideTHISbike pays approved repairs caused by a mechanical defect; the renter pays for punctures, crashes, misuse, lost parts and unauthorized repairs. Remote rescue or a replacement bike is not guaranteed. If a covered defect makes the bike unusable, RideTHISbike refunds the unusable rental time but does not cover hotels, train tickets, taxis, missed connections, meals or other consequential expenses.

Theft must be reported immediately to local law enforcement and RideTHISbike. Supply the incident number, location, photographs and a written account as soon as reasonably possible, ordinarily within 24 hours.

Rent first, then decide whether to buy

Each bicycle has an asset-specific pre-tax buyout price disclosed before the rental begins. It will not exceed the current retail price of an equivalent new bicycle and will remain fixed for that customer during the rental. You may purchase during the rental, at return or within seven calendar days after return.

Extended trip and optional consignment application

A traveler may buy the bicycle, continue the trip as its owner and later apply to consign it through RideTHISbike. Consignment is discretionary, condition-dependent and never a guaranteed buyback.

Cancellation and return rules

The existing BuZz NOLA cancellation framework applies: full refund or credit with 72 hours' notice; with Booking Protection, up to 24 hours before the booking; full refund or credit if BuZz NOLA cancels for weather or another unforeseen circumstance; and full charge for no-shows. An Amtrak cancellation or itinerary change is not a cancellation by BuZz NOLA. Reasonable retrieval expenses may be charged if a bicycle is abandoned or must be recovered.
